Larry Nimmer – Conceptual Artist, Filmmaker, and Educator

Nimmer Art represents the creative vision and lifelong work of Larry Nimmer, a conceptual artist, filmmaker, and educator whose work spans more than four decades. Since the mid-1970s, Nimmer has explored conceptual art as a powerful medium for expression, participation, and social dialogue.

Nimmer was first introduced to conceptual art during the 1970s through the influence of Dadaism and the experimental performance art movement at the La Mamelle Performance Space in San Francisco. These early experiences shaped his artistic philosophy: art should create opportunities for people to express themselves and engage directly with ideas.

Conceptual Art with a Voice

Much of Nimmer’s work centers on creating platforms where individuals can share their perspectives, experiences, and creativity. His projects often blur the boundaries between artist and audience, emphasizing participation, dialogue, and the collective human voice.

Through installations, conceptual projects, and multimedia work, Nimmer continues to explore themes of identity, communication, and the role of art in society.

Film and Media Production

In addition to his work as a conceptual artist, Larry Nimmer is also the founder of Nimmer Pictures, where he has been producing film and video projects since 1975. Over the years, he has worked across many roles including producer, director, writer, cameraman, and editor, bringing a versatile and hands-on approach to media production.

His work in television news and documentary filmmaking has earned multiple Emmy nominations, reflecting a strong commitment to storytelling and journalistic excellence.

The Vision of Nimmer Art

Nimmer Art continues to build on Larry Nimmer’s longstanding mission: to create meaningful art that invites participation, encourages expression, and connects people through ideas.

Through conceptual projects, media production, and education, Nimmer’s work demonstrates how art can inspire dialogue, creativity, and community engagement.
